A very basic guide to calculating the size of heat pump required for a space is to calculate the volume of air in that space. i.e. length x width x ceiling height.e.g. a typical lounge may be 4.5mw x 5ml x 2.4mh = 54 cubic meters. Now multiple that by 55 watts per cubic meter = 54cm x 55w = 2970 watts or 29.7 kilowatt. There for a Hitachi RAS 25 with 2.5kw cooling and 3.4kw heating would be suitable for this space under normal conditions. There may be however situations where by a RAS 35 may be better suited.
