There has been a lot of publicity in news recently about cold damp mouldy homes causing severe sickness and unfortunately even deaths, not only in children but adults young and old as well. The government’s reaction as advised by health professionals and backed by university studies is to increase the insulation levels, increase the heating and seal up homes. This has been a project in place now for a number of years. This has made a positive benefit to the indoor environment however it still has not solved many issues.

Damp homes are a culmination of moisture introduced into the home by occupants, by house design, by environmental factors and general maintenance. Adding insulation, heating and weather tightness does not remove the moisture and in many cases exaggerates the symptoms. Mould and bacteria love damp warm places to feed on. Double glazing will reduce condensation on windows and cold surfaces but merely hides the obvious damp issues, out of sight out of mind. Double glazing has other benefits which are not damp related.

These homes like many NZ homes have had years of moisture introduced into the home and the home is literally dripping wet although this cannot be seen just as moisture cannot be seen on a sponge but it is deep inside.

At SAYR we can solve 95% of problem damp homes by installation of our system alone. We work closely with the other 5%, this may involve addressing other extraction methods in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry’s. Upgrading insulation in ceilings and underfloor. Installing Ground Vapour Barriers over dirt floors, heating recommendations, heat transfer recommendations and more.

SAYRs experienced staff can inspect your home and give you the best advice how best to tackle any damp issues you may have.

Give SAYR a call today and don’t be a victim.
